True Blood (Alan Ball, 2008-present), HBO’s greatest ratings success after The Sopranos (David Chase, 1999-2007), debuted on September 2008. Despite the fact that initial impressions were mixed, critical reception of True Blood’s first season has generally been favourable. However, its biggest ratings accomplishment was not reached until the second season’s premiere in June 2009 – becoming the most viewed show on HBO since the series finale of The Sopranos.
