Abstract

Der Himmel, ὁ οὐρανός, ist in den genuinen Paulusbriefen nicht bloß ein kosmischer Raum, sondern der Ort, von dem her der Zorn Gottes, aber auch die Rückkehr Jesu erwartet werden und wohin die Christusanhängerinnen und -anhänger bei der Parusie entrückt werden. Er ist ferner der Ort, an dem es ein „unvergängliches Haus“ gibt und an dem sich Engel aufhalten. Darüber hinaus kann der Himmel auch stofflich gedacht werden, als „Material“, aus dem der „zweite Mensch“ gemacht ist, oder als etwas, mit dem der Mensch beim Tod bekleidet wird. Schließlich befindet sich das πολίτευμα (Bürgerrecht/Staatswesen) aller Christusgläubigen im Himmel. Der vorliegende Aufsatz untersucht die facettenreichen Repräsentationen des Himmels in den Protopaulinen und fragt, inwiefern sie als kosmologische Größe erscheinen, in metaphorischer Weise theologische Aussagen transportieren und wo sie als politischer Ort vorgestellt werden. Es wird aufgezeigt, dass dem pluriformen Himmel über seine räumliche Dimension hinaus ein polyvalentes semantisches Feld mit inhärenter theologischer Bedeutung zukommt.
