This article discusses the portrayal of nature in three texts by Anne Duden and contends that it plays a significant role in her work. In ‘Ein Landhaus’, a fictional text, nature metaphorically reflects psychological processes in the protagonist. In the essay ‘Unter einem Dach’ natural elements depicted in an architectural phenomenon stand metonymically for the role of a suppressed and transcended culture. In the third text, a painting depicts natural growth in relation to the development of a written ethical culture, which appears to emerge morphologically, as natural growth out of the earlier culture.
