About the Author

Ye Lan, a tenured professor at East China Normal University (ECNU), is the founder and leader of Chinese “New Basic Education” research and “Life- Practice” Educology construction. She has served as vice President of ECNU, vice Chairwoman of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, vice President of the Chinese Society of Education, and honorary Dean of Institute of “Life-Practice” Educology. Her main research fields include fundamental theory of education, methodology of educational research, contemporary transformation of Chinese basic education and normal education.

Professor Ye has published several monographs. Introduction to Education Theories, which was first published in 1991, was awarded the first prize of national best textbook. And the revised edition was published in 2006. The Initial Exploration on Educational Research Methodology published in 1999, won the first prize of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences best output and the first prize of National Higher Education Institution Philosophy and Social Sciences output. On the “New Basic Education” published in 2006, was awarded the first prize in the National Higher Education Institution Philosophy and Social Sciences Output competition and reprinted several times. Recurrence and Breakthroughs published in 2015, was awarded the first prize of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences outstanding achievement and the first prize of National Outstanding Achievements in Education Science Research, as well as the first prize of Wu Yuzhang Humanities and Social Science Award.

Professor Ye’s papers, including The spirit of the times and construction of new aspiration of education (1994), Fill the classroom with life (1997), Theory and practice on the ‘transformational change’ of China’s basic education schools at the beginning of the century (2004), An introduction to the “Life-Practice” Educology (2009) and so on, won the first prize of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Excellence Achievements. In 2014, “New Basic Education” research won the special prize of Shanghai Municipal Teaching Achievement and the first prize of National Teaching Achievement. In 2018, the research team of “Life-Practice” Educology was awarded the first batch of National Colleges and Universities “Huang Danian” Style Teachers Team.
