Abstract
Antonios, abbot of the monastery of St. Simeon near Antioch is known to be an active translator around 1000 AD. Yet, few things were told about his life and even some of his translations were misattributed to other Christian translators. This paper has collected and discussed some biographical information found mainly in colophons, which shows that at least some of the accepted ideas about Antonios’ life are mistaken. In the remainder of the study the Greek originals on which Antonios worked are discussed, especially the text of the Dialectica brevior. Remarkably, the recension he used—as is the case with the De Fide contra nestorianos—is preserved in a very limited number of manuscripts.
