With the coming of the third wave of democratization, competitive electoral democracy touched many parts of the world. This chapter explores the nature of party financing in Zambia from 1991–2016. The chapter reveals that the party in power enjoys unmatched advantages of incumbency as it directly controls state resources. Parties in opposition rely heavily on the resources of individuals, mainly the founders of those parties which further results in a ‘Big man syndrome’ and problems of party ownership. The chapter also reveals that an uncontrolled source of funding is a major challenge in Zambia.
