Abstract

The chapter will highlight the key features of the learning ambience created by a values pedagogy and the ramifications of these for good teaching. Data will be extracted from the projects that ran as part of the Australian Values Education Program (2003–2010) as well as from germane international work. The key features will be summarised thematically under the headings of Calmness, Positive Relationships and Safety and Security, key features of the persistent implicit effects of the program. Ramifications of such features for efficacious learning will be elicited from allied research, so justifying the notion that values pedagogy is best understood as a direct and holistic, rather than adjunct, pedagogical means of achieving efficacious learning. Persistent cross-referencing will be provided that underline the consistency to be found around these features in the Australian program and international research.
