Abstract

The sanctuary of Hero Auloneites in Pangaion, with continuous use from the Hellenistic to the late Roman period, in combination with the neighboring early Christian basilica, offer an opportunity to clarify issues of continuity of cult practices, related to their special location in the passage (αὐλών) of the ancient “Southern Road” between Mt. Pangaion and Symbolon connecting Philippi to Amphipolis.
