Abstract

Influential discussions of Scottish nationhood by David McCrone and Cairns Craig have drawn their legitimacy from appealing to the concept of postmodemity, raising theoretical and political problems which have only been further obscured by devolution. Lyotard’s work provides us with grounds to mistrust both “postmodern” and “national” accounts of Scotland.
