Abstract

From the onset of modernity masculinity has been ineluctably bound up with constructions of the nation and nationalism. From a postmodern perspective, however, where identity is perceived to be in crisis. this seemingly symbiotic relationship has been challenged. An examination of Irvine Welsh’s Filth and Glue therefore highlights some of the complexities of the contemporary gendered nation.
