Abstract
This essay concentrates on the reading material of “Wandering Rocks”, not only the multitude of texts specified within the episode but also those attached to it in the form of interpretations and critical responses. The essay identifies Joyce’s Dublin as a city saturated by and contingent upon language and produces a wide-ranging reading of “Wandering Rocks” as an episode caught in the tension between scn1pulous patterning and a fidelity to the real.
