Abstract

This essay offers a detailed analysis of what it calls the ‘interlocations’ of “Wandering Rocks”. These are identified as the trademark stylistic feature of the episode and as having a simultaneously disorienting and coordinating effect. The essay uses a discussion of the reader’s difficulty in deciding what is or is not an interlocation to show how “Wandering Rocks” insinuates a continual sense of ‘elsewhereness’. This awareness is then reinforced and developed throughout the remainder of Ulysses.
