Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced higher education institutions to rethink and adjust the ways in which their regular activities are carried out. This chapter addresses the issue of the lecture, a quintessential element of traditional university life, and speculates on the format of the lecture in universities post-pandemic or whether the university lecture as we knew it will cease to exist altogether. An online survey was distributed to university educators which invited them to share experiences of teaching since the start of the pandemic, and to reflect on changes in their practices once and if university life returned to normal. Most predicted a return to normal albeit in a blended model of learning. Although COVID-19 has contributed to certain transformations in the delivery of academic content, many questions remain to be addressed regarding the future of academic activities in Higher Education Institutions.
