Abstract

With few exceptions, most U.S. colleges and universities have operated enterprise systems individually without strong collaboration with other institutions. Educational technology leaders could benefit from a collaborative approach to large-scale technology implementations. Since collaborations take many forms, this chapter helps leaders understand some of the typical U.S. technology collaboration options. It tells the story of the HESS Consortium Collective Program, a new model for small and mid-sized colleges and universities to evaluate, buy, collaborate, support, and innovate in the area of enterprise resource systems for financial, course management, student records, and the like on a national basis. This new model has the potential to be a national magnet for all private, non-profit colleges and universities to advance student success and lasting educational technology change.
