Abstract

It is widely accepted that integration is an important predictor of study success. In this multi-disciplinary research field, different terms for the broad topic ‘integration’ are used interchangeably: e.g., (a) social integration, (b) universitary citizenship behaviour, and (c) student engagement. In two studies (N = 166, pandemic online learning conditions; N = 251, onsite), the predictive validity was investigated. Contrasting online versus onsite learning, differences in the average level of the three constructs reveal differentiated impacts of a lack of face-to-face contact. Consequently, post-pandemic higher education including mixtures of online and onsite scenarios should carefully consider creating opportunities for ‘integration’.
