Vitae Parallelae and Moralia contain the description of many dreams, which can be considered as interesting instrumenta to understand some aspects of Plutarch’s thought. The section 4.72 of Artemidorus’ Onirocritica describes a premonitory dream which Plutarch had during the last days of his life and tried to interpret. So, through a biographical excerptum from Plutarch’s life, Artemidorus seems to recall the personal experience of the Chaeronean as an exemplum to directly connect the main topic of Onirocritica with the biographer par excellence.
