Abstract

The chapter analyses the experiences of higher education institutions in creating unity-building capacity by participating in the European Universities Initiative. It focuses on the strategic objectives European Universities Initiative that affects forging bonds by members of the academic communities. As regards the integration, it examines mutualization processes in terms of governance, education provision and digital transformation reported by the alliances’ members and the European Commission as a strategic goal for the European Universities Initiative. The chapter presents the results of an empirical study that involved Polish universities – European Universities Initiative members – and aimed to explore the experiences related to the impact of the European Universities Initiative on building trans-institutional and international academic partnerships through synergies in mutualization processes to identify bonding mechanisms that contribute to building a community around the concepts and tasks carried out within European Universities Initiative alliances. The research results show that EUI s were welcomed by universities in Europe and had a stimulating effect on them. EUI s offer new opportunities to create an academic community through the trans-institutional model that fosters innovation and inclusivity and builds the systemic potential of the redefined education process and digital transformation that support the goals of EUI s at an accelerated.
