In this paper, an attempt is made to investigate the impact of World War II on antiquities in Attica, Greece. The research is based on a combined study of Greek archival material, which documents the measures taken by the Greek state to protect antiquities, the active opposition of the struggling Greek Archaeological Service to the occupation forces and the compulsory cooperation with the “Art Protection” units of Germany and Italy, as well as the cultural policies of the opponents in occupied Greece.
