Abstract

Ficino’s methodological preoccupation with analogies. Discussion of the analogous relation between the higher genera in Plato’s Sophist and the Aristotelian categories. The chapter includes discussion of the notion of a Platonic “analogical genus” according to Ficino’s reading of Plotinus’ Enneads VI. 1–3. Ficino’s use of certain scholastic notions is also reviewed.
