Due to the advancement of technology and COVID-19, the landscape of mentoring is evolving to greater emphasis on online mentoring. The rapid shift to online mentoring has interested many scholars and practitioners in techniques required to build successful virtual mentoring relationships. This chapter highlights the core concepts of mentoring in current literature, applies various theories and frameworks to suggest keys for success in online mentoring relationships, and shares prospects for online mentoring using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and chatbots. First, the chapter provides an overview of various related concepts in mentoring and applies them in an online mentoring setting. This chapter draws on theories and frameworks widely used in instructional technology, education, and management. It aims to provide tips and suggestions for developing meaningful online mentoring relationships. It also discusses insights for researchers and practitioners in the field of instructional technology, including mentors, mentees, and administrators in higher education and beyond.
