This chapter traces the various ways in which transparent logics have been presented in the literature over the years. Although these renderings are usually taken to be equivalent, one of the interesting results of this chapter is its discussion of the important differences between the three main versions of the system of transparent logics: Tichý’s fundamental version from his Foundations of Frege’s Logic (1988); the version developed mainly by Duží, Jespersen, Materna and their colleagues and followers, especially after 2010; and the so-called ‘Transparent Hyperintensional Logic’ that has recently been developed by Kuchyňka and Raclavský. The chapter begins by presenting Tichý’s foundational system in detail. It then presents the other two main versions of TIL, highlighting their differences. The second, perhaps more important, part of this chapter consists in a presentation of the deep problems that stem from the current definitions of the various versions of the system of transparent logic. My detailed analysis of the sources of these problems enables me to formulate a fourth version of the system, the validity of which I establish with various proofs.
