Issues of the ‘Kulturwissenschaften’ and/or of cultural studies are becoming more and more relevant in Egyptology. However, when trying to analyse ancient Egyptian religion against the backdrop of cultural studies, the main focus still remains on the high-low culture opposition as developed within Anglo-American cultural studies. The present article aims at proposing other focuses of research on Egyptian religion that are taken from issues and methods of the ‘Kulturwissenschaften’ and/or cultural studies.
