The interdisciplinarity of Egyptological studies is discussed with a focus on the qualifications of Egyptologists as museum personnel. As the public show a growing interest in museum exhibitions, it is necessary to provide curators with a thorough understanding of museum communication. The author explains why the traditional understanding of museum didactics cannot serve as a basis for contemporary museum communication. She insists on the museological approach, which sees the exhibition as a specific information system in which certain messages between the past and the modern world are communicated. Within this system, objects receive particular meaning because their tactile properties enable visitors to interact with them directly, a fact that helps to communicate their special features. It is essential to respect the major rules of museological methods of presenting an exhibition whilst at the same time taking the reception codes of potential visitors into account.
