Christoph Schlingensief succeeded in linking the role of the artist with the tradition of the avant garde and the role of the intellectual as few others have. How did Schlingensief reach the public and intervene effectively in politics? The paper demonstrates and explores three types of criticism: the ‚affair‘, the ‚scandal‘ and the ‚scandalisation of the scandal‘, in order to illustrate the peculiarity of Schlingensief’s intervention strategy in the political arena. Particular reference is made to his project Nazis rein (2001).
