Abstract

This chapter examines the reception of Lucan inMarlowe,Daniel, Drayton, May, Cowley, Marvell, and other writers of the English Renaissance, with particular attention to the theme of civil war in relation to English history and politics, and to the insistent presence of an amatory strain in English versions of Lucan.
