Abstract
The article argues that German exhibits incorporation of indefinite NPs into the verbal complex. It is proposed that these NPs are not just semantically integrated—a process often called ‘pseudo-incorporation’—but that they constitute a complex predicate with the verb in syntactic structure. The data which suggest that German has this kind of complex predicate formation comprise the positioning of indefinite NPs relative to sentence negation and to manner adverbials, the preposing of bare verbs, the absence of parenthetical niches, so-called DP-PP-splits, and the occurrence of the external argument in a preposed verb-projection.
