In this chapter I will try to assess the appropriateness of using the term “Pentecostal” or “Pentecostalism” in describing the religion of many Chinese in the countryside and, increasingly, in the cities. I will conclude that it is probably wise for scholars not to use this term unless they apply it very selectively, and use carefully chosen language to describe this phenomenon.
