In this essay Patrick McCabe’s novel and screen adaptation of Breakfast on Pluto is read in the context of the negotiations along the border of the Republic and the North of Ireland. Explorations of gender performance, depictions of violence and the motif of glam rock suggest a complex and nuanced relationship to the legacy of The Troubles and the ensuing Peace Agreement in relation to McCabe’s fiction.
