We greet you with the warmest praise and deepest gratitude for your remarkable gifts of scholarship and collegiality of spirit that have been so influential in creating the high quality and prominence of Novum Testamentum as a benchmark in the study of the New Testament within its ancient philological, literary, cultural, philosophical and religious contexts. It is truly fitting to have this volume appear in the series of the Editorial Board to which you have given such excellent leadership.
We are especially grateful for your mastery of so many of the sub-disciplines of Greco-Roman culture and literature, combined with your insatiable curiosity into the origins, causes, and cultural registers that have shaped the making, transmission, and reception of the New Testament texts. Such a “dossier” has made you the ideal editor of a journal that was founded upon and has continually aspired to showcase precisely the immeasurable role that the Corpus Hellenisticum has and continues to play in illuminating the Novum Testamentum and its cognate literature.
Your personal dealings with each Board Member betray the astute insights into human nature and the gentle care of one of your beloved mentors, the late Prof. Dr. Andrie du Toit. It is apparent from the endearing expressions of gratitude and loyalty from so many who have had the privilege of knowing and working with you that you have adopted much of his spirit and talent for bringing out only the best in each inquiring student of the New Testament.
We salute you on this most celebratory occasion of a Festschrift in your honour, the rich chorus of contributions offered to you in affection and deepest appreciation for your profound impact upon our common discipline as well as upon so many of us over these years.
Our heartiest congratulations!
