Technology contributes to the design and implementation of STEM activities in multiple ways, but the “T” in STEM is sometimes overlooked. This chapter outlines the importance and benefits of technology in STEM education and highlights research and teaching strategies for promoting technological literacy. The chapter presents a summary of the types of technology tools, applications, and products that are presently available for conducting STEM activities and how these technologies can support the development of various 21st century skills in students, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Emerging technologies for supporting STEM, such as coding through game design and programming, mobile app development, 3D modeling and printing, and digital storytelling are discussed. Finally, how these technologies are implemented in two projects as example is described.
