This edition of Daniel Heinsius’ Auriacus, sive Libertas saucia (Orange, or Liberty Wounded, 1602) is a reworking of my doctoral thesis (Daniel Heinsius, Auriacus, sive Libertas saucia (1602): Editie met vertaling, inleiding en commentaar/An Edition with Translation, Introduction and Commentary (and with a Summary in English), Voorthuizen: Florivallis, 1997). I would like to thank my supervisors Riet Schenkeveld-van der Dussen and Jan den Boeft, as well as Lia van Gemert. This dissertation was written in Dutch and published with a private press so that it was not widely available; moreover, since its publication much research has been carried out on Neo-Latin drama. Therefore, it seemed appropriate to prepare a new edition, now in English. I made it during my stay as a visiting professor at Princeton University (January–June, 2018), for which I am grateful to the Humanities Council and the English Department there. Will Kelly of Minerva PLS corrected the English of the translation and the commentary and Robin Buning kindly read the introduction and commented on it, as did Nigel Smith.
