Abstract

This chapter frames racialised gendered illiteracy as a fundamental flaw in museum curation, pedagogy, and scholarship and explores the representation of American Black women in museum spaces, but particularly, the National Women’s History Museum through this lens. Museum spaces were chosen because they are rhetorical devices that intentionally and unintentionally communicate messages about people and their personhood.
