Abstract

This chapter investigates how the Hong Kong Catholic Commission for Labour Affairs (HKCCLA) and affiliated labor centers strengthen and expands civil society through its work and activities. Based on the Catholic principles of subsidiarity, participation and solidarity, the HKCCLA attempts to empower workers and to galvanize Church members to express concern for workers and for social policies from a religious perspective. It is through their actions and activities that the HKCCLA tries to employ or foster religious social capital, nurture civic virtues, and provide resources and moral values in civil society.
