Abstract
The House of Urtenu letters supply invaluable information about the Hittite imperial administration of its Syrian periphery. In the texts discussed here, two main topics arise: a plantation project in Mukiš and a battle near Tuttul between the Hittites and their allies and the Sutu tribes. Both events took place simultaneously and were seemingly given equal relevance by Ḫatti. In our view, the plantation project is perhaps related to the management of the cult, whereas the Tuttul battle testifies to the complicated management of the Middle Euphrates imperial borders. Indeed, several first-class actors and their own interests are involved: the Hittite Great King, the viceroy of Karkemiš, Šagarakti-Šuriaš of Babylon, and Niqmaddu III of Ugarit.

המכתבים מארכיון אורתנו אשר בעיר אוגרית מספקים מידע רב על אודות המערך האימפריאלי החיתי בסוריה. במאמרנו אנו דנים בשני אירועים העולים במספר מכתבים: מיזם חקלאי בארץ מוכיש ומערכה של החיתים ובני בריתם כנגד בני הסותו בקרבת העיר תותול אשר על הפרת התיכון. שני האירועים התרחשו בסמיכות לאותו הזמן. המערכה נגד בני הסותו מעידה על הקושי בשמירת גבולות האימפריה החיתית באזור הפרת התיכון. מספר דמויות מפתח מעורבות במתואר במכתבים: המלך החיתי, המשנה למלך בעיר כרכמיש, המלך הבבלי שגרכתי-שוריאש, והמלך של אוגרית, נקמדו ג׳.

تزوّد رسائل بيت أورتينو في أوغاريت بمعلومات لا تقدّر بثمن عن الإدارة الإمبراطوريّة الحيثيّة للمناطق السّوريّة. في النّصوص الّتي نناقشها هنا، يبرز موضوعان رئيسيّان: مشروع مزرعة في موكيش، ومعركة بالقرب من تل البيعة بين الحيثيّين وحلفائهم وقبائل السّوتيّين. لقد وقع هذان الحدثان في نفس الوقت ويبدو أنّ الحثى أعطاهما نفس الأهمّيّة. من وجهة نظرنا، من الممكن أن يكون المشروع الزّراعيّ مرتبطا بإدارة العبادة في سوريا، في حين أنّ معركة تل البيعة تشهد على الإشكاليّة في الدّفاع على الحدود الإمبراطوريّة الحيثيّة في منطقة الفرات الأوسط. في الواقع، تشارك العديد من الشّخصيّات من الدرجة الأولى ومصالحهم الخاصّة في الأحداث الموصوفة في الرّسائل: الملك الحثيّ العظيم، ونائب الملك في كاركيميس، وشاغاراكتي-شورياش من بابل، ونقمدّو الثّالث من أوغاريت.
