Abstract
To the present day, speakers of Palestinian Arabic have retained a rich heritage of folk poetry, some of which is sung. The following remarks will focus on the vowel phonemes of Palestinian Arabic as realized in sung traditional folk poetry. Since vowels in spoken languages have a musical structure, it is understandable that in sung Arabic texts, vowels play a more central musical role than consonants because the former are realized with a relatively open vocal tract, whereas the latter entail partial or complete closure of the tract via physical contact between the articulators. Some Palestinian folksongs are very old and naturally reflect an earlier diachronic stage of the contemporary language; consequently, folksongs constitute an interesting source for the reconstruction of linguistic history.

דוברי ערבית פלסטינית שימרו עד היום מסורת עשירה של פיוט עממי שחלקו נועד לשירה. המאמר מתמקד בתנועות של הערבית הפלסטינית כפי שהן מובאות בשירה של פיוט עממי מסורתי. מכיוון שלתנועות בשפה המדוברת יש מבנה מוזיקאלי, קל וחומר שהן מקבלות תפקיד מוזיקאלי מרכזי יותר מזה שמקבלים העיצורים בערבית מושרת. זה קורה מכיוון שבעוד שהתנועות נוצרות ע״י דרכי קול פתוחות יחסית, העיצורים מחייבים סגירה חלקית או מלאה של דרכי הקול על ידי מגע פיזי בין איברי הדיבור. מכיוון שחלק משירי העם הפלסטינים הם עתיקים מאוד ומייצגים באופן טבעי שלב מוקדם של השפה בת זמננו, הם מהווים מקור מעניין לשחזור בלשני.

يحتفظ المتحدّثون باللّغة العربيّة الفلسطينيّة حتّى يومنا هذا بتراث غنيّ من الشّعر الشّعبيّ، بالإضافة إلى أنّ قسمًا منه يغنّى. ستركّز الملاحظات التّالية على الحروف الصّوتيّة للّغة العربيّة الفلسطينيّة كما تتحقّق في الشّعر الشّعبيّ التّقليديّ المغنّى.
نظرًا لأنّ الحروف الصّوتيّة في اللّغات المنطوقة لها هيئة موسيقيّة، فمن المفهوم أنّ للحروف الصّوتيّة في النّصوص العربيّة المغنّاة دورًا موسيقيّا محوريًّا أكثر من الحروف الصّامتة أو السّاكنة، لأنّ الأولى تتحقّق من خلال مسار صوتيّ مفتوح نسبيّا، بينما الأخيرة تستلزم إغلاقا جزئيّا أو كاملًا للمسار الصّوتيّ عن طريق الاتّصال الجسديّ بين أعضاء النّطق. إنّ بعض الأغاني الشّعبيّة الفلسطينيّة قديمة جدّا وتعكس بشكل طبيعيّ مرحلة تاريخيّة سابقة للّغة المعاصرة. وبالتّالي، فإنّ الأغاني الشّعبيّة تشكّل مصدرًا مثيرًا للاهتمام لإعادة بناء التّاريخ اللّغويّ.
