Abstract

The study of solecisms was one of the interests of the Stoic Chrysippus, as testified by Diogenes Laërtius (7, 192); for Lucian Lives at Enchantment 23 the study of solecisms is indeed a distinctive element of his linguistic interests. In SVF III 769 Chrysippus following Zoilus of Amphipolis interprets as a syntax error a particular Homeric verbal form whereas it constitutes the evidence of a rare form relevant for the history of the Greek language.
