Abstract

Sasha Sokolov’s (1943–) unique poetics are traditionally considered to stem from his novel Shkola dlia durakov (1973, first published in 1976). But his further works clearly demonstrate that this book is the least representative for the writer. The narrative and linguistic game techniques that Palisandriia (1985) and Triptikh (2007-2010) are based on, embryonic in the first novel, became essential in Mezhdu sobakoi i volkom (1980). This essay considers the evolution and the interconnections of the author’s work’s key features and provides an analysis of the texts of Sasha Sokolov as a unit. (For a brief plot synopsis of Mezhdu sobakoi i volkom, please consult the introduction to this issue of CASS.)
