Antonio Maria Costa left UNODC in 2010. The current Executive Director of UNODC and Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna is Under-Secretary-General Yury Fedotov appointed by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 9 July 2010. UNODC has not published an annual report during Mr. Fedotov’s leadership at the time of writing.

Article 3(a) of the Trafficking in Persons Protocol defines “human trafficking” as “the recruitment transportation transfer harbouring or receipt of persons by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion of abduction of fraud of deception of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation.
