The present article is a colloquy between the directors of Ballets Russes 2009, a festival held in Boston in 2009 to celebrate the centenary of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. The authors reflect on the experience of organizing the festival, including the conference at Boston University that forms the basis of this volume. The article features the insights their work gave them into Diaghilev's own experience in running the Ballets Russes, as well as observations about Diaghilev as a manager and cultural entrepreneur.
