Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show the contradictions between Islamic law as presented by the Quran and Sunna and the justifications used by Muslim countries to hold reservations against the full application of the CEDAW Convention. More specifically, Article 16 of the CEDAW Convention constitutes the focus of this study with reference to other articles of pertinence to the larger issue of women’s equality.
