As waves of Islamism have given rise to new signs of public religiosity in Nouakchott over the last decades, it becomes relevant to wonder how a long-established Islamic tradition of Moorish society negotiates these recent Islamic currents and to study their impact on the traditional links between warriors and scholars. The main goal of this article is to characterize a specific attitude toward Islamism in Mauritania.
