Abstract

The moths described by Fabricius in 1787 and 1794 as Tinea tunbergella and T. thunbergella respectively are not conspecific. The former name is valid for a micropterigid whereas the latter is a junior subjective synonym of the gracillarid Caloptilia alchimiella (Scopoli). A neotype of the former and a lectotype of the latter are designated.
