Abstract

A taxonomic review of all species of the pondskater genus Gerris Fabricius known from China (including Taiwan and Hong Kong) is presented with descriptions of two new species, Gerris (Gerriselloides) lundbladi sp. n. from Sichuan, China, and G. (Gerris) lobatus sp. n. from Sichuan and Tibet, China. A lectotype is selected for Gerris lepcha Distant and its synonymy of G. gracilicornis (Horváth) is verified. The status of G. (Gerriselloides) tigrinus Brown and G. (Gerris) sahlbergi Distant as separate species are confirmed. Keys for the identification of the genera of Gerrinae and all species of Gerris occurring in China are presented.
