Abstract

The primarily Nearctic genus Epichlorops Becker is revised. The genus comprises ten species in the Nearctic region: E. aquilonius sp. n.; E. californicus sp. n.; E. ectyphus sp. n.; E. elongatus sp. n.; E. exilis (Coquillett); E. glaphyrus sp. n.; E, mexieanus sp. n.; E. punctieollis (Zetterstedt); E. scaber (Coquillett); and E. stenostylus sp. n. Epichlorops punetieollis is the only species of the genus known from the Palaearctic region. A key and illustrations of all species are provided. The monophyly of the genus and phylogenetic relationships between the species are analysed and discussed.
