Abstract

A new fossil of the colletid bee subfamily Xeromelissinae is described and figured from Miocene amber of the Dominican Republic. The species is represented by a single female and is proposed as Chilicola electrodominica sp. n. The fossil is distinguished from living Chilicola as well as the only other fossil xeromelissine, C. gracilis. The relative ages of the genus Chilicola, the subfamily, and the Colletidae as a whole are briefly discussed.
