Male and pupa of a new chironomid species, Micropsectra lacustris, are described. The species was found in two lakes, Leipikvattnet (alt. 468 m a.s.) and Stora BlÅsjön (alt. 533 m a.s.), in Jämtland, Sweden. Stora BlÅsjön is located in the northern coniferous region, Leipikvattnet in the transition zone between the former region and the birch region. The lakes are oligohumic (Leipikvattnet) and extreme oligohumic (Stora BlÅsjön), respectively.
