Abstract

Three new species of the genus Cyphon Paykull (Coleoptera: Helodidae) are described, viz. C. perses n. sp. from Iran, C. ponticus n.sp. from north-east Turkey, and C. iberus n.sp. from Spain. They all belong to the coarctatus group s. 1. In addition, descriptions are given of the male C. macedonicus Nyholm and the female C. scurrula Nyholm, the former described by Klausnitzer (1976) under the name of Cyphon graecus, which name consequently has to be sunk as a synonym, the latter previously unknown. Attention is drawn to the characteristics afforded by the bristles covering the parameres in Cyphon. The multiformity of these bristles will be dealt with in more detail in a separate paper.
