Pastoralism in the Western Cape Province, South Africa: A Retrospective Review

In: Journal of African Archaeology

With 25 years of study of the origins of pastoralism at the Cape, this article is a retrospective reflection on how far we have come in answering questions of how domestic stock arrived in southern Africa, and the mechanisms for dispersal to the ends of the continent. New data on genetics, linguistics and physical anthropology allow more creative modelling of the archaeology.
