The aim of the journal is to provide an international forum for Jewish thought, philosophy, and intellectual history from any given period. The emphasis is on high scholarly standards with an interest in issues of interpretation and the contemporary world. Articles are expected to cover philosophy, biblical studies, mysticism, literary criticism, political theory, sociology and anthropology.

Elliot R. Wolfson is the Marsha and Jay Glazer Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara. He is the author of many publications in the history of Jewish mysticism, including Through the Speculum That Shines: Vision and Imagination in Medieval Jewish Mysticism (Princeton University Press, 1994), which won the American Academy of Religion's Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion in the Category of Historical Studies, 1995 and the National Jewish Book Award for Excellence in Scholarship, 1995. In addition, he is the author of Along the Path: Studies in Kabbalistic Hermeneutics, Myth, and Symbolism and Circle in the Square: Studies in the Use of Gender in Kabbalistic Symbolism (both published in 1995 by State University of New York Press), Abraham Abulafia--Kabbalist and Prophet: Hermeneutics, Theosophy, and Theurgy (Cherub Press, 2000), Language, Eros, and Being: Kabbalistic Hermeneutics and the Poetic Imagination (Fordham University Press, 2005), Venturing Beyond: Law and Ethics in Kabbalistic Mysticism (Oxford University Press, 2006), Alef, Mem, Tau: Kabbalistic Musings on Time, Truth, Death (University of California Press, 2006), Open Secret: Postmessianic Messianism and the Mystical Revision of Menahem Mendel Schneerson (Columbia University Press, 2009), and A Dream Interpreted Within a Dream: Oneiropoiesis and the Prism of Imagination (Zone Books, 2011).
