Abstract

This introduction to a special issue dedicated to ‘Japonisme and Fashion’ evokes the influence of fashion within the field of Japonisme, sketches the history of the field, summarizes its recent developments, and outlines the issue’s contents. The modern sartorial practices and global fashion industry inspired by the styles, motifs, and concepts of Japanese dress shed new light on the inherent multiculturalism of Japonisme itself.
